December 02, 2004Christmas at the Ambassador's
Last night we went to the Philippino High Commissioner's Christmas party. Most of the attendees were dressed in red and wore santa hats. The Ambassador herself was dressed seasonally; turned out to be a very nice lady. I mixed and mingled amongst the Philippino community, unsure why I was there, what possible reason would they invite Vijen and Lorrie and I. HAving eated a large meal at home, I had to decline the food that was offered, taking only a soybean juice. Anyati was there, and her alma, whom I had met many times before, was working to serve food and drinks in the residence. She seemed playfully annoyed that I declined the food... Couldn't eat any more, though. Later the Ambassador headed the Philippino choir in the singing of Christmas carols. It was almost sad to hear them sing, as it made me think of all that I was missing back home. They sang beautiful songs that I hadn't heard before, all in english. I realize that I do miss the seasonal temperatures a bit. I miss the aggressive marketing campaigns. I miss the snow as it creeps down the mountainside. I miss wearing my sweaters, and I do have a few nice warm ones. It will be strange to miss Christmas this year. It will be strange to miss winter this year. It was nice to have a bit of Christmas here in Brunei... Comments
