Why I do not like Brunei

1. It is tremendously hot.
2. The local Bruneians mistreat the immigrant workers, paying them ridiculously low wages.
3. Everyone gets automobile subidies from the govmt. and so everyone here drives. Therefore the bus system is poor, backpackers beware.
4. It is very expensive, by which I mean it is very cheap by Canadian standards, but through the roof by asian backpacker standards. (Meals ~3-10$B, magazines ~8$B, hostel 10$B, taxi ~10$B short trip, Gucci watch ~3000$B {same watch in Bangkok; special price for you, 300baht})
5. You cannot drink alcohol on the street as you can elsewhere in Asia. In fact you cannot drink alcohol anywhere except your own home (though a few restaurants owned by the sultan waive this rule).
6. If I overstayed my 14day visa by a month I may recieve a fine, while an Indian recently overstayed his work visa by a month and recieved 5months in prison and 5 lashes of the cane. (I have been told by a reputable source that the 'cane' is actually the tail of a stingray; this is ideal for caning because one edge is serated and tears through the flesh very efficiently, leaving permanent scars).
7. There is no night life here.
