September 24, 2004Please don`t pee here
This cute hand-drawn sign urges you not to pee. Or perhaps urges you to prohibit dogs from peeing here. Its at the mouth of a subterranian staiwell taht takes you to the finest korean restaurant that I`ve eaten at in my life. Andrew and I were here early in our visit to Japan, perhaps the third day. we were astonishingly hungry and Akiko recommended this place near Machida station. the lady that owned the place was ferociously friendly and taught us some phrases in korean. she thought it was hilarious when i tried to say things to her in japanese, and she made fun of me by forcing me to learn korean too. talk about language overload. We ate more than we perhaps should ahve. There was a festival out on the street nearby. I gather taht it was in celebration of some Okinawan holiday. there were several dozen men beating on drums chanting, and teh same number of small women singing in ultra high voices. Pretty cool experience. Comments
