September 07, 2004Ten Days To Count Down
Well, I have decided to refamiliarize myself with this darn blogging system. If I expect to rely on this system in places unknown, that is. So I scared a few people last week when I sent out an email indicating that I was leaving the country. I guess not everyone knows... Two weeks in Tokyo ought to be a crazy scene! I'm thrilled to eat real Japanese food. Lots of westerners want me to find out a few things, namely, do they have California rolls in Japan, what about the famed BC roll? Do they have whale sushi? Will I eat it? In due time plenty of young Japanese folk will be giggling at me for asking these things while on the crowded subways. I have been irresponsible with my planning for Japan. Not once have I read a Lonely Planet or other guide. I've looked plenty, but I've scoughed at the hefty price tag that LP insists on making me pay. I'm hoping my friends there will be able to help me out. I'd appreciate any input anyone might be able to offer. Places to see and things to do. I'm surprised there isn't a book listing important International laws. For instance, until recently, it was forbidden, and punishable by caning, to chew bubble gum in Singapore. I believe it is now a controlled activity. Perhaps you now need a licence to possess and be a user? From Burnaby, British Columbia, Comments
Am I in the right blog? Is this South-Asian geography 232-3? Why is there nobody else here except that tall skinny guy in the hardhat? I miss you Erik! I still have that goodbye graduation card you have me when I came to China. But I don't look at it anymore. I cried all the way to San Francisco. I hope you have a better time on your Asian tour. Looking forward to the updates. Keep condoms handy. www.xanga.com/johnjiang Posted by: John on September 7, 2004 09:33 PMHey Erik, you should have started an account at OGHMN and then posted on our website. Which you can still do. It's all free and I'll make sure your updates get put on the front page. www.oghmn.com Posted by: Ryan on September 8, 2004 03:37 AMI will be on that exact flight 35 days after you. Scope out things for me to do in the airport during my layover to Denpasar Posted by: Sierra on September 8, 2004 06:07 AMHey Erik, This means you are alive! Come visit us sometime before you leave. It's okay to leave the bubble every once and awhile. I'm so excited for your fabulous adventure! Oooh la la. Posted by: Lauren on September 8, 2004 05:57 PMHee dude, sounds like you are as nervous as I was before I left for south east asia. Don't fret, you'll figure it out when you get there. I did and mananged to come back alive. If you need any advice on where to go/what to do in Thailand just let me know! You never did give me your lonely planet so I could highlight and dogear all the pages of good stuff to do there (read my old webpage!). Don't drink the water, take tuk-tuks in Bangkok, or buy 'sleeping pills' in the pharmacy there. All bad news. And careful of the buckets of Thai whiskey and redbull down south aka. buckets of violence (you'll see...) Take care and happy travels! Posted by: Kailyn on September 9, 2004 05:26 AMHey Erik, I found a book on Customs and such in Thailand. Don't think it had international laws though. Think it's worth picking up? Let me know...only 5 more sleeps now!! Drew Posted by: Andrew on September 11, 2004 05:01 AM |
