ellie becomes a manager?

it's been a while since my last entry. have been so busy with work. well, not really just work but just doing stuff around cairns and trying to enjoy this little town i currently call home. couple weeks ago Mark was printing some work for a fellow photographer friend on Metallic paper. his work was just beauuuutiful. there was a picture of this place at sunrise, Lake Tinaroo. the colours were just amazing and gorgeous so the next day off i had i decided to drive out there with monica and tessy to have a view for myself. it was beauuutiful but it didn't look anything like the photo.

mark's let me print some of my work from the outback on metallic paper as well. i'm loving that paper!! it's faaaantastic! cant' wait to show some of you my work on this paper! it's just gorgeous! Keith, can we get metallic paper in the lab ??? i think it's specific to kodak though...ahhh nuts. he let me print heaps and heaps of 8x12s...maybe about 40 prints or so and he only asked for $1 for the lot. whoa! he said he just likes to help out young and budding photographers where he can cuz he wished someone woulda given him a break when he was starting out too.

my photos are out on display in a gallery! okay...well..they are on display but they are more on a posterboard and in the night market (touristy nick nacks and brick a brack area). my photos along with darren's and mel's are on display to try to sell the scenic reef flight that we did. well, it's not a gallery but people can walk by and stop and view plus they are on the wall...hmmm...am i convincing you yet that it's similar to a gallery??? hrmmm...me neither.

mark owns three stores here in cairns. the manager to the busiest store on the esplanade left last month for maternity leave. after a week the store was falling apart. nothing getting done. i asked mark if he had anybody in mind for the position and if he didn't, to consider me. after some discussion and him being impressed that i asked for the job...plus considering that there are other people in the company that have been there longer and will be staying in cairns...i am a co-manager of a photolab!!!! freaky. the other manager, ellen, is still young (21) and he wants me to help mold her. (cuz i know how to do that?!?!) together, ellen and ellie, work well as a team. we compliment each other. i do a lot of the training and ensuring quality is maintained while she does a lot of the product layout and store design to ensure the store looks great!!!! so far so good!
