g'day digs...don't call me digs!

g'day digs, (digs is what you say when you are way out west instead of saying mate)

i am in winton, home of waltzing matilda. my last stop before i head out to Boulia. it was a 20 hour bus ride out here...very fun i tell ya...and it is still another 3 hours before i hit Boulia. i will be working in a 12 room motel in Boulia for about a month. i was let go from my photolab job as the owner's newphew was coming up from canberra and needed a job..so he got mine. crikey. but the owner, Di, said that she would give me an 'excellent referral' and 'felt that she was making a really big mistake by letting me go.' i replied, "damn right you are." heehee. but oh well, that's how the timtams (cookies) crumble. so i decided to head out for an adventure and here i am.

in late 1990's there were dinosaur remains found close to here. also, this is where the song "Waltzing Matilda" originated. there's even a statue of a 'jolly swagman' from the song. i just finished walking the length of the town...in about 20 mins. (i took it easy) i'm staying in a hotel here at the edge of town and i reckon i can see the other end of town from the balcony. =)~ tomorrow i head out to boulia, population 300. there will be a rodeo there this weekend. similar to the calgary stampede i reckon..but not so big (??) will let you all know how it goes. in July they will have camel races!!! oh the fun! mayhaps i'll try to come out for that.
