June 25, 2004Standing Room Only
I had to leave the hotel this morning. I really didn't want to leave, but all good things must come to an end. I wanted to smuggle out the pillows, but I had no where to put them and well, that would be stealing, so I left all the pillows on the bed when I left. I took the train from Dublin into Mallow. I have no clue where that is, but I was there. Well, when I got off the train, I swear that everyone else got off the train too. I think everyone was going on to Killarney. I mean, it was mass chaos. I really thought I wasn't going to get a seat on the train and had decided that I could wait until 4 to take the next train. Then one of the men from the train said the next train would be the same way because there is a huge concert in Killarney tonight and all the people were going there. I might as well get on the train and go now. So, he took my suitcases and I got on the train. There were no seats left and I ended up standing in one of the doorways with a group of 6 girls. I asked them where they were going and they said "Killarney" I asked if they were going to a concert and they said yes. I asked who was playing and they said "Bryan Adams!" Then, they broke into song. Totally hilarious! I guess Bryan Adams is really popular here. Standing in the doorway with the girls made the hour train ride go quickly. They asked where I was from and I said "Indianapolis," not really thinking that I needed to say the States because the accent is usually a dead giveaway. She looked at me and said, "I don't think that is in Ireland!" It was really funny. I told her no, it was in the States. I made it to Neptune's and found that the hostel is very nice! The people are also very nice and helpful. My room looks good too. (Smelled good, too!! You all know how I am about smells) I was only in there for a few minutes, but it will do just fine. I am relieved that this hostel turned out to be a good one. I have an 8 person room, so far only two of us are there, but I am sure the room will be full because of the concert tonight. I think there are more concerts tomorrow too. This is a busy weekend in Killarney. I took the advice from Frommers and went for an ice cream cone at Mac's Ice Cream Parlor. Very good! Now, I am just getting caught up on the blog and taking in this cute little internet cafe. This one actuclly has a cafe. The others have only had computers, no cafe. Well, only 4 1/2 days left. I plan on spending my next few days here in Killarney and just hanging out. I am going to do some shopping and just enjoying my last few days. At times, I thought I would never get this far, but I have. I did have some rocky parts during the journey, but I made it. Anyhow, it has been a good trip and I am glad I did this because I really proved something to myself. So, until next time, take it easy. Who knows, maybe I'll run into Bryan Adams and he will make me his backup singer? Here's to a nutty dream! Lots of love to you all! Hope to update again on Saturday or Monday! Keep those e-mails coming! Love, Heather Posted by Heather on June 25, 2004 10:44 AM
