Experiencing the place you grew up after 11 years

Hello!! My name is Dipesh Pradhan. Originally, I am from Pokhara, Nepal and I currently reside in USA. I am going home after 11 years, yes, 11 years. Don't ask me why, but that's the truth and the fact. I am hoping to share my travel experience among fellow travelers via this blog.

about to board to Nepal

August 13th, 2007

I am about to board to Nepal. Can’t believe this day is here and I am going to meet my parents after more than 6 years; the place that i grew up after 11 years. I wonder how the places and people might be over there.
I stayed in lounge last night in the airport. Slept for 4-5 hours. I had foot massage yesterday and today morning which was really good. In bangkok airport, I saw mostly Asian and European people. They looked more fashionable than US people.
I also found Thai people to be really friendly. They always had smile in their face.
I was chatting with this lady that was giving me foot massage. She was single mom, taking care of two sons and works 12 hours everyday. For a minute, I thought, maybe I should stop complaining my job and appreciate the life in US.

Suvarnabhumi Airport,Bangkok, Thailand

August 13th, 2007

I arrived in Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi Airport around 4:06p.m. of the local time. It was a 17 hours non stop flight from New York to Bangkok. The plane goes all the way up north to Canada, Greeceland and then down south to Russia and then to Bangkok.
I met a dutch guy in the plane. He has travelled in almost all parts of the world due to his job, but fell in love with Thailand. Is Thailand such a beautiful place? I wonder. I can’t argue that their food is great, but I often hear that Thai people are really friendly. Maybe I should make my next trip to thailand. One day, I am planning to stay in a buddhist monetsary and would like to experience how monks live.
I have to stay in this airport for another 16 hours before my flight to Kathmandu, Nepal tomorrow. Looks like I have plenty of things to do here including foot massage.
I found myself surrounded by different people and feels like maybe I don’t belong here.

JFK, New York

August 13th, 2007

JFK, New York (aug 12th, 10:44 a.m EST) - I am almost half way from home. I arrived in New York around 8:30 local time. As soon as I arrived, most people looked confused where to go, which terminal to go. I was able to safely reach Terminal 4 where Thai air is located. I could see people from almost all over the word; wearing different dresses and speaking different languages which were hard to figure out. There were air hostess wearing their custom dress. There were people happy to go where they wanted to go. There were people saying good bye to loved. Airport is really amazing place where people meet and depart. I could hardly see airport employees smiling though.

Packing

August 11th, 2007

Its only a day left for my travel. Am I exicted? Am I nervous? Am I thrilled? I don’t know. The fact of going home hasn’t hit me yet. Maybe it will when I am on plane, but right now, I am finding myself relaxed.
Today was my last day at office. I said goodbye to most of my collegue and thanked people that have made this dream come true.
I am almost done packing, but not finished yet. Looks like I can take upto 70 lbs;however, I am still not sure how much luggage I can carry….
