Tadley Twilight Zone

I have had my suspicions that we have moved to an alternative universe for some time now, but it gets weirder by the day.

I am working on my first SF story and I find it hard going. I also came to realise pretty quickly that it would be a good idea to attend a writers group again; both for motivational purposes and to avoid getting into a muddle. So, after surfing the web for a while and not (yet) finding anything suitable online, I remembered that the local community college used to run a sporadic creative writing workshop. Perhaps a small local group had grown from it? I googled ‘Tadley writer’s group’ and came up with Ansible links, an SF site, in third place. It turns out that Tadley has its very own SciFi group called Genesis, natch.

Thing is I had not entered ‘SciFi’, ‘science fiction’ or any related search term into Google, although it is true that I had visited a few SF sites just beforehand. Earlier that day I had also read some stuff on Inductive Logic Programming as background for my story about an emerging AI. When combined with a learning algorithm, this stuff can basically predict your wishes and act on them before you even know what you want. —Certainly something that Google will take on board but hasn’t yet. Or maybe I’m living in a time-warp where my stories come true even as I imagine them?

Doo-doo-doo-doo….
