A picture in 60,000 words

I have decided to serialise my travelogue on Sri Lanka: ‘The Whales of Trincomalee’ in this blog. Let’s face it; it will never see the light of day as a book.

The length of the thing, 60,000-odd words, concerns me but it turns out that the whole file (formatted) is only about 550 kB. That is less than one of the pictures of the Borth Beach BBQ which I accidentally uploaded without editing — in this day and age, 60,000 words say less than one picture! On the other hand, the picture of Sri Lanka that I paint with my 60,000 words is, at best, woefully inadequate.

One thing going for it is that it is set in the present and not 20 years ago. But even though I have done a lot of traveling in between, in many ways the trip to Sri Lanka has been a direct continuation of my African journey. It, too, proved to be a turning point in my life.

So here goes…
