January 09, 2004Bukoba to Mwanza
Bukoba, Tanzania is a pleasant town on Lake Victoria and home to the Haya people. Nothing too interesting, it's just a good stopping point on the way to Mwanza. Ok, there is one interesting little factoid. Remember The African Queen? The Bogart/Hepburn war flick? During filming Bogart stayed at what is now the Lake Hotel in Bukoba. I was having a drink there when a Finnish guy sat down and revealed the hotel's history. View image from the Lake Hotel patio. On to Mwanza via the Victoria ferry overnight cruise View image where I met up with Becky Giegerich, a Mali PCV extending for a third year in Tanzania View image. I stayed at her completely-too-nice-for-a-volunteer-house on a hill overlooking Lake Victoria. Well, she's taking me on a pub run tonight (coincidentally starting at Mwanza's Lake Hotel) so I best be off. It's Tusker Time. Comments
