R&R

We bought tickets to Sihanoukville, as we wanted to hit the beach!
The bus journey was fine and we arrived at Serendipity Beach at 12pm. We ended up at Chivas shack. You basically sleep for free on mattresses on the beach. We donned our bikinis got on the beach. Kids instantly surrounded us. Within the first ½ hr we had bought fruit, we had bracelets made and I was having my toenails painted by a girl and her mother. We just swam and chilled on the beach all afternoon. There was a party that night further up the beach. We met up with an Aussie couple and had a few drinks. When we walked back to Chivas it was pitch black and as we walked in the water the disturbed plankton glowed. It was like stars in the water, and we must’ve seen at least 10 shooting stars in the sky.

The next day I woke up to the sound of the waves and people playing pool. It was Monday morning. I thought of everyone at home, who, in a few hours would be waking up on a freezing December morning to go to work, and I just sat there grinning. I felt much better and ordered a banana & chocolate pancake mmmm.
We sat on the beach all day, and at sunset as the day before the beach came alive. Kids were everywhere playing football, Frisbee or fire dancing. As soon as the sun disappeared over the horizon the bar would light candles.
We fell asleep that night lying in hammocks next to a fire.

The next day on the beach, I was joined, once again by Door. He said he was 13 but looked 10! I taught him english words and he taught me Khmer by writing words in the sand. He worked on the beach every day selling bracelets!
