April 16, 2005Goodbye, kids!
Antes de empezar mi blog, quiero que dar gracias a todos por sus palabras bonitas que me escribieron para mi blog pasado.
Before beginning my blog today, I want to thank all of you for your beautiful words that you wrote to me in my last blog. This past week was my last week in the schools. I wish that I had more to write about the students and such, but for the most part, it was pretty much the same thing, expect for their goodbyes. On Tuesday, I had my last class with the 2nd graders in the public school. There is one student (Jose Pablo) that talks a lot and acts silly, but he is also the most loving of the students. Here in Costa Rica, the teachers (in elementary grades) are called niña by their students. Actually, it is more like niñá. Niña in spanish means little girl, but it is also the name of the teachers. It is sort of like Miss in the states. They do not say your name, just niña. So, Jose Pablo gave me a little ice pop, that was no longer frozen, on Tuesday. On Wednesday, even though I did not have a class with him, he bought me an ice cream cone. Muy rico! And on Friday, he gave me another ice pop, he had about 6-8 in his hands probably for all of his teachers. When I parted with the 2nd graders, I said goodbye to all of them with a little kiss on the cheek, as is the tradition here and got some film of both classes, 2nd and 4th grade. Before leaving on Friday, one student, one of my faithful who came every class, asked for my signature as a memory. So, I signed papers of most of the students with good luck written above. The two students that are having the hardest time with English were the two that came every week. Keissy and Rodrigo, and these two I really enjoyed having them as students, and Rodrigo especially has a place in my heart. It is funny, because the teaching might sound a little sappy, saying goodbye and buying me little foods, but in reality, it is something that I enjoyed for a time, but it is nothing very emotional or monumental. I am not sure if this is ok, but I think that it fine. Have to go, I will write more about a trip to Grecia soon. Maribel is coming to visit me tomorrow!! Comments
