February 21, 2005Mi familia en Heredia
Heredia is a city that is maybe 7 or so miles from San Jose, the capital. Because I arrived at night, I only saw a bit of it as we were driving from the airport. It did not look much different than a semi-rural town (this keyboard is in Spanish and is a little different!) in the US. The roads are a little rough but not too bumby. My homestay family is very amiable and patient with me... My "mama" and the papa do not speak English but their son Victor does (he calls him self a walking dictionary, which is true!). But, he does not speak much with me so that is good! He is a student at the University. The family also has a daughter who is a dentist. She lives in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The mama is very sweet and claims me as her hija (daughter), which is comforting. Their house is very nice and I wonder if maybe they have a little more money than other ticos (Costa Ricans) but I really am not sure. I have my own little room with a closet with shelves, a low twin bed and a bedside table. There is also a small stand for a suitcase. I am not putting my suitcase on it though because it would probably break! This morning, el papa cut up a fresh piña (pinnapple) and banana, and la mama made me scrabbled eggs with unions. It was a good breakfast to start my day. There was also fresh, dry bread and OJ. I will hang out more with them tonight after my classes. Comments
