La Vida Andaluz

So its been a while since I´ve been on here, sorry for all my habitual readers out there... (if any) I´ve been really busy these last two weeks, considering how I went back to London for vacation, came back to Spain, got my own apartment in Granada, started school again, planned a trip to Morroco (FRIDAY!!!), living the life here is busy enough...

Life is good, thats all I have to say. Things here are great. I´m a 17 year old with his own apartment in the south of spain, I don´t think I have to say anymore than that. My place is in the center of town, close to the cathedral, and the Alhambra, and even closer to school which is a lot better than it was in Salamanca. Logistically, I couldn´t ask for more.

Here there is an amazing mixture of arabic and spanish cultures, (conisdering how Granada was the last foot hold of muslim euro land...) So it is very cool to walk around town, grab a tapa, and then go grab a kebab and a cup of mint tea. Here people will blare Flamenco and Arabic Pop from their cars, not just the typical euro trance shit. But I have to say that the main difference here is the women. I don´t know what it is, but they are just more good looking women here per square meter (whoa metric) than there was in Salamanca. Things here are much more, oh, how do you say... ghetto as well. It feels like it has much more of a real feel to it compared to Salamanca. It is doing me good to see some mountains again as well, it surprisingly reminds me of home. The Sierra Nevada is, as they tell me, the highest peak in europe, and it is only about an hour away from the beaches of the mediterranean. So it is definatly situated well.

I´ve already found my place to go here, Its called Eshavira. This is a flamenco jazz place that is a really well kept secret. To get there you have to take some major sketchy looking ally ways, and back streets, but once you get there it is definately worth it. It is goo so go to a place where it is ok to roll a joint at your table, and here some really great music as well. It is amazing. Besides that, tapas are usually free here when you order a beer or wine, (That is really good to us broke, traveling college/high school students.) and you can get an amazing kebab here for maybe 2,50 €. It is amazing, I don´t know how I ever lived withouth my kebabs before in colorado.... PEOPLE OPEN YOUR EYES, START KEBAB RESTARAUNTS!!

Well, just to let all you guys back home know, Friday I´m heading to Morroco for a weekend trip. I´ll be heading to Tangiers, Teoutan, and Chef Chouen, Anybody out there have some tips for me??? Let me know. Hopefully I don´t get put into a morrocan prison, but what happens happens right? Oh yeah, and Semana Santa is starting up over here as well, so things are going to be crazy for a while. I´ve seen all the guys practice carrying this gigantic piece of scaffold, that is supposed to be the big altars for the processions, and I just learned that a procession routte goes right in front of my apartment building! So, well see what happens.

So thats it for now.... oh yeah I got a digital cam, so expect some pics soon.

Hey! I happen to like that Euro trance s__t! Though about all Mark listens to is ska... We did catch Flogging Molly at the Fillmore last weekend. So see, even us folks stuck here in CO have a little fun.

Sounds awesome where you are at. My mother's side of the fam has some of that Arab influence; there is the family name Al Kara which was was spanish-ized to Alcaraz back in the 18th century or something. (Mi madre's Tio Teodor was quite a geneaologist).

Enjoy Moracco, and keep us posted!

So I just wanted to drop you a line saying that I'm not at all jealous that you're trapesing around Europe during your senior year. Not even a little bit. It's great here in Greeley, you know, with the bovine smell, so why would I be jealous??? Alright, maybe a little bit. Miss you tons and hope that you're having a fantastic time! Remember our little Johnny Depp agreement if you're in his neighborhood and enjoy your time away from the vapid stare.
