3 driving days
Above, on our third day of driving, in the mountains of Tennessee, we find the snow that we thought we’d left behind.
Sat. 11/15: leave Glens falls aabout 8, south on RT 87 to RT 88, then RT81 into PA. Rain & drizzle all day, downpours in PA. The van is a little light in the front end due to weight in the back and when big rigs go by at 70MPH the turbulence makes waves. Camp in Tremont PA about 4:00, temp 65. Due to rain we elect to sleep downstairs.
Sunday 11/16: after coffee we head on down RT81, temp is 34. 20 minutes later the left rear tire explodes into shreds. A quich roadside change has us on the road again in 15 minutes, but we don’t trust the tires now. After calling aroud we find an open tire store and get new tires put on all the way around. As we get into Virginia we turn off onto R11 which parallels 81 almost the whole way.A much nicer road for us with less traffic & few trucks, as well as wandering through villages and farm land. Drive till about 8 and camp in Claton Lake state park, Dublin VA. Again cold, so with all clothes on sleep below.
Monday 11/17: coffe in the dark, cold at 34, on the road by 7. Stay on RT11 til stateline then 81. In Tenessee we go about an hour, then south on RT26. Going through the mountains to North Carolina is where we come upon the snow. Drop out of the mountains to Ashville NC where the sun comes out for the first time in several days. In the afternoon we wander south to Moynihan’s in Salem South Carolina for a couple days rest. We’ve driven 1000 miles so far. Only 4 or 5 more days to Mexico.

Given where you are, I guess we say hey y’all. I’m glab you finally got off, although it is pretty funny that you are gone, as day after tomorrow I have to go to Arlington to look at a ajob, and thought I would stop in. I bet it was a thrill when when that tire said good bye, one you don’t want to repeat too often, but hey, what’s another 600 bucks out the window on new sneakers. We are well, and wishing you guys a greta trip. We will check in once in a while to keep track. By the way, last tag! Douglas.

Keep those tires round on the bottom. Glad you are enjoying our warm southern weather, ha ha! We look forward to hearing of your travels and hope to maybe hook up somewhere in Central America later. Have a great time and keep the pictures coming.

Well, we may be cold, but we don’t have snow - yet… I agree with Robert - keep those tires round!! Sounds like you are having an adventure and you probably haven’t heard from as many people in ages… Joey sends love and tells you it’s nice to be warm in the house!! Keep letting us know how it goes. Love to you both.

By now I hope you have shed the jackets, sweaters, and long pants. You will enjoy knowing that the temperature will remain in the teens today with scattered snow showers and wind! In fact it has been like this for the past week. But that’s OK… it keeps us perky.
Just curious about the daylight- by 4:30 it is nearly dark… do you linger in the setting sun in the evenings? Keep on truckin’!
