Well guess I figured that one right as 3 days was what I had planned with The Hermitage the winter & summer palaces & whatever else turns up that would be the minimum. With my new plans will have a bit more time so should be able to make it to Birmingham for a cerveza + have to get up to see R4O before I leave.

Looks like a great itinery Dave, sooooo jealous !......JMO, but i would try and allow at least 3 days in St Petersburg, fascinating city, but depends on what your interests are of course. The one thing on a RTW trip, i guess, is not to feel rushed or wishing you had spent longer somewhere when you've got the opportunity to do so !

I had given up on travel health ins for more than 30 days for the over 60 group when I was told about RBC who covered me for just under $900 for 183 days which ws under 1/2 the cost of any other quotes but still almost $5/day.

As to the quality of care I would say it's on par with Canada in major areas & given the small size of the countries you are never far from a major center so I had no more concern about traveling in CA than Canada.

As for relocating to Guatemala at least I will be able to find a doctor there, something I can't do here & private costs are less than 1/10 of here. I would say Cuba has better trained doctors than Canada & a higher per capita ratio

Dave,

Have you had any health issues during your months in CA, aside from your dental requirements. I am near your age and know that in the back of your mind is that nagging question about medical availability and coverage. Enough about that. I have enjoyed reading your proposed itinerary and know that it can be quite challenging to figure it all out. We lived in Germany for 6 years with the Cdn military. A trip along the Rhine is a must. Paris is a beautiful city. I tell people that Rick Steves travel quides are a must. Switzerland (Interlaken area) is our favourite country followed by Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome), but both are expensive. Cairo is like going back in time, 1,000 years. Fascinating. Athens is steeped in ancient history. The Greek Islands are a great place to reduce stress and enjoy the sun. I too would love to explore Russia, especially St Petersburg. I will be following your adventures. All the best.
