Packing Hell

Yes….you heard right.
I am packing. And having one tough job doing it.

I decided last minute to tag along on my family’s 4000 mile road trip across the West. Part to help them drive and part because any travel is good travel at this point. I basically had 2 hours notice to pack for 4000 miles of terrain which passes through heat, humidity, high altitude, possible snow, hiking, fishing, and evenings out. Not to mention I am carrying laptop and video camera (per their request), and SLR camera + assorted wires and chargers.

Maybe I am getting rusty, but packing for swimming pools and hiking in potential snow on the same trip seems to take up a lot of room. I get depressed when I look at my bulging rucksack. Its SO much easier to pack for climates where shirt is optional. :)

So beyond my griping, and dread of all this driving, this trip will take me to big American places like Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone (where I hope to see another bear), Jackson Hole, and even back to my beloved Flatirons in Boulder, Co. Beyond getting to play in Oklahoma for the Army, I have never been that far West…

Packing problems or not….we leave in 1 hour and my blood is tingling. Woohoo!

Sounds exciting Greg. How much time do you expect to this 4000 mile trip to take? The travel bug must be a family trait. I also plan to do a road trip across the US someday, after I do some rtw backpacking first though. Enjoy your trip and I look forward to lots of posts.
