March 29, 20062006: Cambodia - Borneo and in between
Sorry for being such a slacker the past few months. I've been bouncing around quite a bit and haven't really taken the time to sit down and keep up with my site. I intend to do a much better job going forward!!! Here are more pics........ Pictures. Most are from my two week visit to Borneo, Malaysia in February while the rest are random pics from the past few months. Borneo was very nice, although it was still the end of rainy season while I was there so I got a bit wet. Compared to where I had been traveling the past few months Borneo and it's capital Kota Kinabalu are quite wealthy and westernized. English is spoken by almost everyone and is the best of any place I have been in Asia. It is a very diverse culture, predominantly muslim, and made up of people from all over including China, The Phillipines, India, and of course the Malays. Borneo is quite mountainous and covered in thick jungle rainforest (a small island off the coast is where the first Survivor was filmed.) I had hoped to get to explore it more but unfortunately that type of adventure was rained out and flooded during my visit so I kept closer to the towns. Bar none, the highlight for me was diving at Sipidan Island off the Southeast coast. It is regarded as one of the best dive spots in the world and totally lived up to it's billing. I did 9 dives, including getting my PADI advanced open water certification, and all were amazing. In my first day alone I saw over a dozen sharks and more then 20 turtles. One time I saw about 8 sharks lying together on the bottom and have to admit that that freaked me out a bit, I did my best to look as unappetizing as possible. Other than diving, and visiting a few towns here and there, I also got to visit an Orangutan Sactuary to get a look at the funny guys in person in the wild which was neat too. Comments
Please tell me you remembered to get me an Orangutan?!? Posted by: Travis on April 3, 2006 08:42 PMPost a comment
