Happy Thanksgiving

Friday, October 10th, 2008

I went to see Pride and Prejudice at the Citadel on Thursday. The play was fantastic except a couple of things. It is a difficult book to adapt because it is so long. The play was about 3.5 hours long and finished at 11pm. Many of the cast nailed my vision of their character. Mr. Collins ackwardness, Mr. Bingley’s hair flip, Lydia’s teenage giddy-nes, and Mrs. Bennett’s performance were my highlights.

I think I want to see the BBC miniseries now so I can compare the Keira Knightly version with the play and the miniseries.

In other news, Charlene and I are having people over to Thanksgiving dinner this Monday. I hope we can cook something tasty…

Citadel Open House

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

This Saturday the Citadel Theatre is having an Open House between 2 and 5pm. There will be meet and greets with cast members of Pride & Prejudice and The Forbidden Phoenix as well as back stage tours and a whole lot of other interesting stuff. I’m going. I hope to see you there!

Edit: Oct 10/08

The Open House backstage tour was really very interesting! We visited the wig department where we learned how much it takes to maintain and create the wigs, how they store wigs (filing cabinet) and saw wigs from Pride and Prejudice.

The backstage/costuming department was very large. The cast for Pride and Prejudice has a lot of costume changes and there are huge charts on the walls where costume changes are documented by person and timing. Some costume changes are 6 beats (less than 6 seconds)!

The props area is huge. The designing, building and testing of different materials for each play is very in depth. Each theatre basically designs their own set for the same play because directors have different visions of what the play should look like, stage areas are different in each theatre, etc. There are only a few items that do get to travel around because of their specific nature.

Shingling

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008
Today I helped to de-shingle a roof. It was pretty easy work but a little difficult with the wind because the tar paper flew around and the little bits of shingle rocks got into our eyes. I had fun though ... [Continue reading this entry]
