Doc Walker and Willie Mac

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Charlene bought me a ticket to go see Doc Walker with her, her sister and mom.

Willie Mac, from Texas, was quite entertaining as warm up acts go. He has this Elvis style leg shake and hip shake going on when he plays his guitar. That left leg just can’t stay still! You can’t help but watch him to see what he might do next!

DW had a varied set, an energy filled first couple of songs that lead into a long set of slower songs that I kinda recognized from the radio before stepping back up again with a medley of old rock and a Genesis song they remade. (I would let you know the titles of all these songs, but like I said, I don’t really know this Canadian band well.)

Charlene and I went straight from work almost so both of us were quite tired. But having it at the Winspear was good because I think the venue discouraged rowdy behaviour. Either that or the crowd was the tamest I’ve ever seen.  (One couple was asked to sit down after getting up do slow dance in the aisle) Willie Mac leaned down to shake people’s hands in the front row and no one got off their seat or jumped up at all. One lady leaned forward on her seat to shake his hand. That’s indicative of the rest of the audience. The only time there was a lot of standing was the last couple of songs which the band asked the audience to stand and clap along.

Porcupine Hills for the Weekend

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Adam and I went out to Porcupine hills, 2 hours south of Calgary for a couple of races over the long weekend. Saturday was a Cross country(that was cancelled because of rain last weekend) and Sunday was a hare scramble. Adam placed really well in the hare scramble, just shy of the podium at 4th! The weekend weather was beautiful. Amazingly it was about 24C on Saturday with no clouds and Sunday was even hotter and dustier at 28C. I slathered myself in sunscreen but still burned a little. And that’s a feat considering how dark I am naturally.

Sunday we drove all the way back. About 7 hours not counting Adam’s “driving” during his race.

I’ve not tried his bike myself. I don’t think he’d let me and I don’t think that’d I’d want to risk it either considering I’d probably fall over and damage his bike. I’ve been a passenger on the back and that’s enough fun for me.

Shauna and Zousar’s Wedding

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008
This past Saturday I went to my friend's wedding. It was really neat because Zousar is Orthodox and the wedding was very different than your typical western wedding. Walking in there is a lot of chanting and a cymbal guy. ... [Continue reading this entry]
