Lockley Lawn Bowls

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Tonight Eddie took Eveline and I to his lawn bowling club to play. His team was short one player and Eveline came along to watch and ended up filling out the team playing against us.

I was actually not that interested in playing, it just doesn’t seem interesting but I went and I’m glad I did. It was pretty fun in a calm, relaxing way and I think it’s like curling and bowling combined together. Or maybe the fact that I was yelling “HHAAAARRRRRRDDDD! FASTER!” made it more curling like… I don’t know… I also tried my trademark bowling move where I point and lean in the direction I want the ball to go. Works just as effectively at lawn bowls as in regular bowling!

In order from left to right are Cathy, Eddie, Eveline, Ian, Mel, Simon and myself (check out this action shot). Eveline was being recruited by her team at the end of the night and her team actually won a prize for crushing our team 15 to 6.

Tim visits Adelaide

Monday, February 27th, 2006

I met up with Tim today. He is one of the guys I stayed with in Melbourne. He’s German and was doing an internship or something at Hugo Boss. We actually met formally by way of me yelling at him to take his stuff out of my fridgespace! hahah. fridgespace is precious in a house that holds 30 people and only 3 small fridges, y’kno! (my house in Syd had only 15 and had 2.5 fridges)

He’s in Adelaide only one day before he heads off on a 2.5 week tour up the centre to Darwin and Kakadu. He got in to Adelaide at around 615am and we met up with him areound 10am. First thing, Eveline, Tim and I did was head to Glenelg to see the beach and pier. I don’t hink Tim or Eveline was impressed. The water was dark and grey looking, clean but not crystal clear like at Wineglass Bay. I’m sure you can see more interesting beaches and shops elsewhere and the clouds in the sky also made the beach less inviting.

Next up, drive to Norwood for the Food, Wine and Music Festival they were having. We parked right close and walked around. But Tim and Eveline thought it was too much for wine tasting. You have to purchase a glass (normal apparently) and then purchase the wine to go in it at each stall (expensive part was that every wine you sampled were at least 5.00, making one glass 10.00!). Ate some chinese food (I don’t know why but most of the food stalls there were asian) before making our way back to the car to hit the fringe.

Actually, we went to the new Chocolate Cafe that just opened up, Cocolat(I don’t know why we don’t have one on Whyte in Edmonton…maybe I should open one), where I had the best blueberry milkshake ever and a bailey’s cake. YUM!

Unfortunately, the Fringe was having it’s Family Day so a lot of the free performances/street performers were doing kiddie acts. After a quick look around we made our way towards the botanical gardens.

Botanical gardens were peaceful and fairly empty. We stopped at a grassy part where I massaged Tim’s neck and shoulders. (He saw me give one to Eveline earlier for her headache and wanted one himself) We laid in the grass chilling out until the garderners almost ran us over in their Quads telling us it was closing time.

Spent the evening at Eddie’s eating the leftover bbq with his friend, Sally. all three of us weren’t starving but the gourmet meats Eddie bought were quite tasty. Chicken with pine nuts and spinach sausages! how can you go wrong?!

Tim really liked Samwise I think. Tried to get him to do his tricks and even remembered to say goodbye to him when we got up to drop him off at his hostel.
