Old Melbourne Gaol

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I did a night tour of the Jail last night. it was pretty spooky! You can also do sleepovers too. The guide, dressed in period hangman’s clothing, takes you on a candlelight tour of the jail, recalling stories of the most famous inmates and gives you a glimpse into life in a gaol around the 1880s.

Not much to say but you should watch the Health Ledger/Orlando Bloom Movie of the most famous outlaw in Victoria, Ned Kelly.

Australia Day

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

For Australia Day, Jan 26, Maire, Leen and I went to the Docklands to check out the activities there and get free Sailing lessons. The Volvo Ocean Race has been going on (sailing race around the world) and we could take a look at some of the boats that had already made it in to the Melbourne stopover.

First thing that happened when we got to the docklands.

Having some issues with our steering…

And afterwards we saw some dragon boat racing, sailed on a 16 footer and met up with some other people from our house. Amazingly busy day considering it was 38C outside! Definately hot! Great day, and everything free. We even stopped off at a bar to get cooled of in their airconditioning and the table next to ours gave us their free french fries. (they were all workers of the Ocean race and got free food from the pub)
