Versaille

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

Taking the PER train out to Versaille was easy and it’s just a 5 minute walk from the station.

There are many peddlers just inside the gate hawking versaille/eurodisney wares.

Hall of mirrors was very cool, and the Napoleanic furniture very cool!

(My posts are getting shorter and lamer as we get along…)

The gardens are HUGE! Pools/fountains the size of lakes, maze-ish feeling wandering through some bushes on either side of the fountains. I think I could live here ;) The walk from the castle to the end of the gardens and back takes over an hour.

We walked half way, towards the paddleboat launch, bike rental and restaurant and hopped on an electric tram back to the castle. Past by a sheep farm, numerous other fountains and mazes.

Here’s a shot Rob took while we had lunch at one of the cafe’s in Versaille:

Parlay vu onglay?

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

I spent the first 2 days translating things from english to chinese to french and am finally able to skip that intermediate step.

These sorta boggles my mind but Rob knows no french. I guess it’s possible since we are from the west but I thought everyone knew just a little cuz we live in this dual language country.

I totally commend Rob for trying to speak some french while we are here. I, on the other hand, can not do that because I’m too embarrassed of my poor french accent. With chinese, I’m willing to humiliate myself, french, no. Along with that, I have to physically step away out of ear shot from any conversation Rob is trying to have because I am completely embarrassed and have this uncontrollable need to correct his pronounciation.

Musee D'Orsay = 100x better than Louvre. because: -impressionist museum (I like impressionism) -building was an old train station so it's got character -easy to navigate -less crowded/commercial feel But a Louvre sercurity guard put me on a high for the rest of the ... Notre Dame

Popping out of the metro tunnel, we pass by a small flower market. Wandering around looking for Notre Dame we came across St. Chapelle. Might as well go inside, right? Surrounded by the law courts buildings it's actually got ... [Continue reading this entry]

Jim Morrison's grave. I actually wasn't sure what band he played in or anything but Bob wanted to see it so we took the train down and had a look. It's neat to see gravestones older than the oldest ... [Continue reading this entry]

Chicago Layover

Saturday, March 26th, 2005
6 hours sounds like a lot of time to be in a layover at someplace. About enough time for someone to leave the airport and venture around and come back, right? Ah, not so much for Chicago. -1 hr waiting at ... [Continue reading this entry]
