Nights out in Palenque

Palenque ain`t that big although it always seemed rather busy. A quick swizz at the well-thumbed Lonely Planet took us to a cafe in town – canīt remember the name now.

The service was good. We had a fantastic bowl of Aztec soup – tomato and chilli, with tortillas, cheese and avocado – a meal in itself. Eug then went for chicken and I had the pesto spaghetti, which Eug reminded me had been sent back to the kitchen by another table 5 minutes before. Put me off initially but I was so hungry that the plate was cleared.

We ate here for both of our nights in Palenque – there really didn`t seem to be anywhere else. The downside to this place was Julio Karyoke who set up his 2 speakers and his CD player at 8.30pm on both nights. His singing wasnīt that bad – it was just so loud! We found him rather amusing as he took his job very seriously – the red silk shirt said it all!
