A little Rant
Ok. remember that time I dropped my camera off in Kuala Lumpur and the came
back a week later to pick it up, good as new. Well, neither do I, although
I do remember the time I came back a week later and it wasn't fixed at all.
So I was supposed to pick my camera up on the 24th of November, and I
stressed to the woman working there that I was leaving early in the morning
on the 26th, so I would need to have it sometime before then. I stroll into
the office on the 25th (as I arrived in KL late on the 24th) and ask to pick
up my camera. Well, it isn't in yet, nor is it fixed. Then she says that
will be 720 ringit. Whaaa?!? I tell her it is still under warrenty, so I
should and will not be paying anything. Ok, her mistake, no payment
necessary (if there was, this post would definately have a parent advisory
council warning for foul language at the beginning of it).
So there is still the little issue about my camera not being at the store
and me leaving the next day. Apparently, they needed to import a part and
that part comes from Japan and it takes a while. I could have told them
that...actually, I did when I said "Hi, the screen on my camera is broken, I
bought it in Japan and it has an international warrenty, can you fix it?"
As it goes, I had to come back in 6 hours, and pick up my camera that had
not been fixed. Why couldn't you have told me that it would take a week to
import the part when I dropped it off. Arrgggghhh!! Basically, my camera
still works, I can just only see half the display when I look at the
pictures on my camera. So, for that week when I could have had some really
great pictures on my jungle safari's and climbing Mt. Kinabalu, I end up
having to take them on a camera that doesn't have nearly the same zoom
capacity (no offense Brian, but the photos produced on the digital are a lot
better and closer than those on a normal camera).
Alright, I then proceed to e-mail Sony Canada and tell them that I will be
in Canada December 24th, that my INTERNATIONAL warrenty expires December
30th, and I wanted to make sure that my camera would be fixed. They e-mail
me back and say that they only deal with product made in Canada and give me
a link to the Sony world website (Sony.com, based out of the US, did the
exact same thing). Fair enough, the only problem is that the Sony world
website is basically a main website that links to all the country specific
websites.
I e-mail them back and express this, tell them that it is the North American
model, and ask if there is a general e-mail address that I could send it to
as I am not really in one specific country for long enough. The next day (I
can at least say that their reply time was good), I get an e-mail back from
them telling me to contact the Sony Japan customer service, as that is the
country I bought it from. Makes sense I guess, but I'm not going back
there, so they probably won't be able to help me. Funny story, the Sony
Japan website is surprisingly in Japanese. Now, I can read a little
Japanese, but not nearly enough to navigate through a website. After about
half an hour of searching about trying to find maybe a bit of English or a
link that if I click on it takes me to a page to e-mail somebody (anyone
would do at this point), I give up. I e-mail Sony Canada back, tell them I
can't speak Japanese that well, and I thought that an International warrenty
implies that Sony will fix it, REGARDLESS of where I bought it or what
country I am in. That was about half an hour ago, and I am awaiting a
response.
Sorry bout the rant, but getting my camera fixed has been kinda frustrating,
and I decided to take a page out of Stef's book and share it with you guys
:P (It does make you feel a bit better, btw). Other than that, all is
well....
