October 28, 2004Koh Samui
Alright it's update time. I've been spending the last week and a half on 3 islands off the Eastern Coast of Thailand in the Gulf of Siam. I left Bangkok on a bus late on the Friday night and decided to head down to one of the islands and wait for Erik. He was still up in Koh Samet and gonna be a couple of days. I ended up meeting these 3 girls on the bus, 2 from Dairy, Ireland and one from Newcastle, they all live in Glasgow now, and were really cool. I've hung out with them and a bunch of other people we have met along the way for the past 10 days. For the next couple days I just kinda relaxed on the beach (Here is a view from our restaurant). For those of you travelling to Thailand, while Koh Samui is nice, it is pretty touristy with lots of neon lights and shops all around the island. Koh Tao and Koh Pha Ngan are way nicer. Anyway, I spent the next couple days just working on my sunburn, the first night I met up with Mike from my Trek in Chaing Mai, and as it was Saturday night, we watched English football. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of Premier League soccer, but watching in a pub full of Brits cheering for one side or the other made it a lot of fun. Not to mention it was a pretty good game (still nothing compared to Nucks hockey, but since they can't seem to agree on a new collective agreement, this is all I got for now). Since we were on an island, we decided to go out for fresh seafood on the beach. I got a this delicious shrimp for dinner, as well as some fried squid, salad and a large beer for about $7. Not too shabby!! We met up with Erik the next day, and we were gonna just do a snorkelling trip around the island, but we foubd a place that did a 4 day Scuba course at apparently one of the nicest dive spots in Thailand for a fairly reasonable price, so we decided to do that.
