Now the rain has stopped / maintenant que la pluie s’est arretee
We arrived in Rarotonga at 3am. We were welcomed at the airport by an old guy and his guitar, singing under flower garlands. Everybody had a flower in their hair, even the security guards and the customs officials. We arrived at Vara’s and went straight to sleep. Tuesday was a rainy and cloudy day, so we did not do too much. On wednesday we went to the main town, Avarua. You can get the bus into town, using the two lines called “clockwise” and “anti-clockwise” (how simple can it be?). Avarua is a really nice little town with a lot of souvenir shops, , lots and lots of pearl shops, a few restaurants and bars. We tried the Indian, Raviz, which was excellent and cheap. On Thursday night we went to the island night at the Staircase restaurant. Now there is something everybody considering going there needs to know: don’t bother with the meal, just go for the show. The meal costs $30, the show $5. We went for both, and God was the food a let down! It would have been better to pay $30 for the show. The show consists of a troup of Cook islanders dancers and musicians, and it really was great. As soon as we can we’ll put a few videos so you can see for yourselves.
Nous sommes arrives a Rarotonga a 3 heures du matin. Nous avons ete accueilli a l’aeroport par un vieux monsieur et sa guitare, chantant sous des guirlandes de fleurs. Tout le monde a une fleur dans ses cheveux, meme les gens de la securite ou les douaniers. Nous sommes arrives chez Vara et sommes alles directement nous couches. Mardi fut un jour pluvieux et gris. Mercredi nous sommes alles en ville, a Avarua. Vous pouvez prendre le bus pour aller en ville. Leur system est simple: bus qui va dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre, et bus qui va dans le sesn inverse. Avarua est une tres jolie petite ville avec beaucoup de magasins de souvenirs, des restaurants et des bars et beaucoup, beaucoup, de magasins de perles. Nous sommes alles manges chez l’indien, Raviz, pas cher et en grande quantite. Jeudi nous sommes alles a une Island night au restaurant Staircase. Pour tout ceux qui desirent s’y rendre, ne vous embetez pas avec le diner. c’est nul et ca coute $30. Le spectacle coute $5 et est vraioment bien. Ce sont une troupe de danceurs et de musiciens des iles Cook. Des que possible nous mettrons des videos.
