Guangzhou lived up to its reputation as a city full of robbers and swindlers...as far as Chinese cities go it wasn't too unpleasant though, despite my walking around like a potential muggery victim at all times. When the paranoia got too much I stayed in and watched pearl TV which had an interesting programme about sex myths with the cheesiest presenters I've ever seen.
