Firecrackers, turtles and a big cock

Guangzhou lived up to its reputation as a city full of robbers and swindlers...as far as Chinese cities go it wasn't too unpleasant though, despite my walking around like a potential muggery victim at all times. When the paranoia got too much I stayed in and watched pearl TV which had an interesting programme about sex myths with the cheesiest presenters I've ever seen. I was back in Anyuan with my visiting mother for Lunar New Years eve, where I had the treat of turtle. Its foot was surprisingly tasty but I wouldn't recommend the shell. A bit too chewy for my liking. Whilst Firecrackers are not an uncommon phenomenon in China in general, Spring Festival is the perfect opportunity for children to indulge their phsychopathic pyromaniac selves and throw firecrackers at the foreigners, they had so much fun. My mum didn't help matters by making it plainly obvious she was scared therefore providing them with ten times as much amusement...there was a storm last night, the first one since I've been here, couldn't help wishing I wasn't near a river. Or in a building that was made in China. I survived though. And the big cock was in a hotel lobby if you were wondering.
