Badu Island

David, Julie, and I have been camping on Gao Buth (Gao Beach) for the last 4 days. It’s a stunningly beautiful place. It’s mostly a sheltered bay that is rimmed by a horseshoe arc of golden sand lined with postcard-perfect palm trees. A few islanders have holiday homes out here, but it’s spring break and we are the only ones around during the day. Some former teachers who are on the island visiting have been out to have a drink and watch the sunset a couple of evenings… [read on]

Blog crashed

If you’ve been checking my blog, you have noticed that there has been some problems – this server crashed, and all of the New Zealand postings might be gone forever. It’s back online now – but all of the stuff posted in September is gone (for now) I ‘ll see what I can do about getting a new version online…

I’m on Badu Island in the Torres Strait right now, visiting David and Julie, who are teachers here. D& J did a year teacher exchange to Kenai, Alaska in 1993 at the school where I was teaching at the time…
