February 02, 2005Minor case of tendonitis (I think) and updates from Amsterdam
Well as these things usually go, I ignored the slight pain in my right ankle for the last week until finally deciding to go see the doctor yesterday with Sam. So I turns out I've done something to my Achilles tendon (if I understand the English translation correctly- better to sort this out here than in Spain where I think the language barrier will be more of a problem for me) and of course, need to take it easy and not go on anymore long walking excursions for a while (see previous entry on hiking in northeastern Estonia :) Treatment? Tensor bandage around my ankle and half-way up my calf in order to immobilize movement (which means I'm limping EVEN MORE than before and now applying more pressure on my left foot to compensate!) and a cold compress twice a day for 20 minutes each time. Luckily the sweet Dutch boy I'm staying with this week has not one but TWO cold compresses as he himself has hurt his forearm and wrist and between the both of us, there's a lot of "cold-compressing" going around! To all I love dearly (especially my mother who will be most concerned): NO NEED TO BE WORRIED... it's only a minor ailment (yes it could've been worse, but it's not) and I will be seeing the doctor again next Tuesday and probably needing to do some exercises as well. He's giving it 2-3 weeks for it to be completely better and already (because of the bandage) my ankle feels better. What this means: I may need to postpone my going away to Spain (and Portugal and Italy- especially if I plan on WWOOFing!) for another week :( I am taking it easy in Amsterdam and of course having access to a bike (once again, thank you Sam) is relieving the pressure on my feet and is much better than walking. I will update this travel blog to let you all know how I'm "recovering" in the coming weeks... Oh! And I picked up photos from my trip in the Baltics yesterday so I will update this blog with some recent photos in the coming days... Comments
