Like China Town

Yesterday morning I arrived in Florence. I was not sure what to expect of this city but I think I expected more. Maybe something more picturesque, or less immigrants on the street trying to sell me junk, or friendlier Italians, or not so many gypsies. While it is a city full of history and famous art work, 2 days is plenty.

Yesterday I was able to visit the Museum of San Marco, the Duomo, the Baptistery, and the Church of Santa Maria Novella. And today, the famous Uffizi and Accademia, plus a hike up to the top of the Giotto Tower. The Accademia was my favorite as seeing Michelangelo’s David was pretty powerful.

Last night I tried a small family owned Italian restaurant recommended by Rick Steve’s. All but 1 person ate there the entire time I was there. While the food was decent, the house wine was disgusting. Some other Americans came in with Ricks book and as soon as they sat down, I told them not to purchase the house red wine. All they wanted was a nice glass of Chianti. When the waitress told them they could not purchase by the glass but only the bottle, they left. Following, the husband started yelling at his wife in Italian. I imagine it was because she did not just serve them a glass as they clearly had no customers and could have used the service. I just sat there and smiled as they yelled in Italian.
