Somewhere in Salzburg….

So I went out with my new Australian friends.  It was meant to be a low key night but when we met some locals at our first bar we decided to hop along for a classic pub crawl.  And where do we end up?  A bar with a live band playing everything from Sweet Caroline to Brown Eyed Girl.  You better believe we danced, sang, and drank all night.  And to top it off, Austrian hot dogs at 3am.  Yum! So far Salzburg has to be my favorite city. It´s not nearly as big as Vienna, which I like as I feel more in control of my surroundings. Everything is within walking distance and everything is beautiful to look at.

I arrived yesterday afternoon and headed to my hostel, YoHo. It´s clean, safe, quiet, centrally located, and I´ve already made several friends. Upon my arrival I quickly booked my Sound of Music Tour, a major splurge as it was 30 Euros but 4 hours of the Sound of Music! We visited every location where the Sound of Music was filmed. BUT, only the outside scenes of the movie were filmed in Salzburg; all of the inside scenes were filmed in Hollywood. We had an energetic tour guide who sang nearly the entire time, and the guests were supposed to sing along but I just sat there and smiled. We made many stops throughout the tour; all of the backyard scenes, the lake where they fall off of the boat, the famous hill, the trees where she sang I Have Confidence, the trees where the children swung in their curtain clothes, the church where they were married, and much more I can´t remember at the moment. Plus, we learned a lot of secrets and hidden facts about the movie. Should have watched it before I left as I forgot some of the scenes. [read on]
