Countdown

There is still so much i want to do and the time has bacome so little- it’s crazy. For a long time I was telling people that I didn’t know how long I was still staying but actually for a long time and so on…And now it’s all of the sudden come down to me having only 5 weeks left here…it’s insane. My mood about my leaving is changing about 10 times a day, from eternal sadness to overwhelming excitement. I am quite happy to start something new and to leave the annoying volunteers. But I am so not ready to leave my kids and my friends and my little flat and the beach and and and…Today I was walking up through the Chintsa township and I wanted to cry. All the friendly people saying hello, the kindergarden kids hugging my legs and calling me “mama” and Chris, a guy from the township even gave me a lift in his car…I feel so at home! The warmth of this community is amazing and I will miss it so much. For all of you at home: I am going to be a mess when I get there. But still I don’t think there is a way to stay longer and i feel it’s time to move on. One should always leave when it’s still fun i believe. And one can always come back- and I will for sure! My parents just left after visiting for 4 weeks. They were here in chintsa for 5 days and then we took off travelling for 3 weeks together. We went to some really exciting and beuatiful places. Others I had already visited but I was still happy to be able to say hi and bye to this lovely country again. We had a couple of fights (normal…innit?) but most of the time we all enjoyed travelling together. My dad got a little sick which was a bit of a problem in the end because he was not feeling well at all and had fevers and shivers all the time. We even went to the hospital but they couldn’t help.We went on game drives in Kruger, wandered around Cape Town, watched Crocs and Hippos in St. Lucia and lots and lots more. Not to forget I took my parents to my absolute favorite spot: Bulungula in the Transkei. Despite all the problems this country has such a potential and i hope that also with the elections this year things will improve and not get worse. We are having a big electricity crisis and the official introduced wht they call “load shedding”. The cut us off power on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 until 8 in the morning. So that means 3 times a weak no tea and toast in the morning, no lights and no music…it’s not so bad since we still have hot water and it gets light around 6 so we don’t need the lights on. But still, it’s weird to know there’s not enough power for the whole country…How are they going to do this during the World cup in 2010? I am sorry my news were a bit scarce in the last couple of months.Watch this space for news on the creche project! We are starting to build on Monday- finally! I will be uploading pics and tell you how it’s going! Please tell other people of who you know they have donated as well to visit my blog! Thanks! I would like to say thank you to all of ya for reading this and I look forward to seeing a lot of you in very short time! Love from SA, Sonja
