Giza and it’s wonders

Hello my brothers!
have you heard of the pyramids? jajajaja, well as many many other tourist I was there!! 🙂
I went like three day ago but I wasn’t happy enough with it, so I returned today.
Why wasn’t I happy? Simple, I got RIPED OFF!!
They owner of the hostel I was staying, ofered me a bunch of tours around Egypt the first night, and there was one for the pyramids. I knew it was gonna be more expensive but I said, ah! let’s be the tourist for one time. It included a taxi for the whole day (150 LE)and they would take me to The pyramids of Saqqara, the oldest pyramids there is like 7000 years old, to Menphis (Ramses II museum) to Giza (the normal pyramids) and to three free museums, the carpets, the perfume and the papyrus museum. It seemed ok and I agreed. I had to pay for the entry fees of course. The Saqqara pyramids were very nice, different and less crowded. The museum was only worth it, because they have a 12 meter tall statue of Ramses II, made of limestone that weights 1000 tons! It’s amazing to see what people areable to do and with such a precision! Then I was taken to the museums, that were really shops, and they just wanted to sell me perfumes and papyrus!! The only cool one was the carpets one, that is really a school and you could see how they make them.

By the time I got to Giza, it was 2 o’clock, and I kwen that the pyramids close at 15:30. I was taken to a Rent-a-Camel/Horse place, so I would rent one. I was like no no no !!! I don’t want one , it’s too expensive and so on and so forth, but…

The thing was that they told me you pay, sorry I’m gonna give some nummers so you understand better, 20 for entering the area (true), 20 for the Sphinx (true IF you go inside a little place that id totally not worth it, 20 for the pyramid (true IF you go inside it) and 40 for taking pictures (FALSE!!! but I had read somewhere that you did had to pay sometimes so I was doubting) so 100 LE. They price we arranged was 230 LE for 1.5 hours in the pyramids riding a horse and 1 hour riding a camel at sunset. 130 LE for the animals? Ok.

But the thing was that we entered the area thru a hole in the fence and not thru the gate, so there goes my entry fees! And besides the guy was rushing because the place was closed already, and he was giving to the police 1 pound here 5 pounds there. I saw the pyramids from like 30 meters away!!! I didn’t go inside anywhere, and I had to get very angry so the Fuc!er would stop and I had to get off the horse and run to the closest I could get to the Sphinx so I could see it!! Fuc!ers!!!!! So I really didn’t enjoy a thing! 🙁 Oh, and after the tour he tells me to give him some tip! yeah right!
Then the camel ride was ok, I was with a young guy, and I enjoyed a nice sunset (not with the pyramids though, different sides) rode a camel (very uncomfortable animal), and took some nice pictures.
But by the end of the day I really fely bad with myself, like I knew I was gonna pay more for the taxi and everything, but so stupid I’m not!

So after three days of bad karma, I dicided to go again and do things right. I got up early, walked to the bus stop, payed 0.50 LE (think that 7 LE are 1 Euro), 20 LE to get inside the area, 10 LE to get inside the pyramid and stayed there for like 4 hours. Now I did enjoy! I was touching everything, sitting on the pyramid to have a break, taking as many pictures from the Sphinx and the pyramids as I wanted, and being in peace.
I really recomend everyone to go but PLEASE do not accept any tour!

Na Ja, I think it had to happend and it did, I trew away a lot of money and precious time, when I could have being done right from the first time. Now it’s over, I let it go away, no bad karma!
The only good thing was that I met a guy from Austria, and after all the hazzel we went on the quest to find a place where to drink a beer. It took us around an hour and very ugly looks (because Ramadan and Islam) but we did it, and I had a very nice beer drinkling evening in Cairo :). I’m at peace with the Pyrmids now.

Well that’s my latest adventure, I hope you liked it, sorry for writing so much, but I had to let it out.

I also visited the famous Egyptian museum, wich is HUGE and great, and it’s a must for every person visiting the city.

I’m now in Alexandria, just arrived and I’ll stay probably two nights, then back to Cairo, pick up my Indian visa, and head to Aswan, Luxor and Dahab.

I leave with pictures from the two visits, there are plenty to see, I just couldn’t post less =)

see you soon

Simon =)
