Mameeta Ji!

Friday, December 9th, 2005

After a slow start in the day, Rob came to my house and we called a couple of people, to see if we could interview them for Beth’s documentary.

The cell phones aren’t reliable and sometimes you cannot get through, but after much persistence, I was finally able to get a hold of Mameeta, who is Santosh’s wife. Both are lawyer’s in Nepal, and started LANCAU (Lawyers National Campaign Against Untouchability) Nepal, a non-governmental organization to eliminate untouchability. They offer legal assistance to the Dalit community. [read on]

Finally Back….

Friday, December 9th, 2005

Well, after almost a month of wedding activities, pre, during and post, I can get back to writing about what I’m not doing. 😀

First, Rob posted on Craigslist asking for help with some things, and Santosh Giri replied and also left a reply on this blog.

So, I’d like to thank you, Santosh, if you do check back again…thanks for offering your assistance, and thanks for taking the time to post on this site!

There are so many components to this project and getting responses like this is a step on the path to accomplishing many goals. I look forward to working with Santosh and Mameeta’s organization. As I’ve mentioned before in previous posts, massage therapy has a strong connotation with prostitution. Also, when people in Nepal hear that you are from America, especially when one of us looks American (uh, that would be RobBob :D) it also implies a connotation of “you rich” and suspicion, “uh huh, corrupt.”

Building relationships with other Nepali organization’s, that are established in Nepal is a great ally for Himalayan Healers. It gives us credibility, and it’s a good resource for both of us, we can get advice, they can get a massage!

I’m glad that Santosh answered the ad on craigslist, it’s a good beginning of things to come.
