Udaipur & Mt Abu

Udaipur

Udaipur Street

Chloe Writes: This is going to be a bit of a double blog entry due the lack of speedy Internet connection in Mt Abu.

Our trip to Udaipur didn’t get off the best of starts as our 8-hour overnight bus trip ended up with Pete and I both having a bad case of Delhi Belly and so spent our first 24 hours in Udaipur playing tag team for the use of the bathroom.

Udaipur is most famous for the filming of the James Bond movie, Octopussy and the locals are very proud. Every evening at 7.30 in most restaurants you can watch the film. Not the best James Bond movie we’ve seen and the video it’s self had been played a few too many times as we had to keep adjusting the volume. Udaipur is a very quaint town with lots of narrow streets and colorful shops, I didn’t do much shopping though surprisingly enough. One afternoon we took a pedlo round the lake and got a first class view of the Lake Palace Hotel. We could easily have stayed a week x

Lake palace hotel

Pete Writes: After 8 hours of visiting the thrown, I decided to venture upstairs to the communal area. There was a vast selection of Didgeridoos, so I thought it rude not to give it a go… 5 minutes later, after I was making a simular sound to mating tortoises, Gudu came and showed me how to actually make it sound like an instrument. In return I began to teach his brother how to juggle. All I need to do now is work out how to circular breath, and then Chloe can enjoy the magical sounds of the Didge :)

Mt Abu

Bathing Buffalo

Pete Writes: At over 1200 meters above sea level Mt Abu is the highest point in Rajastan, and as you can imagine the views are amazing.

We went on a trek around the mountain, which apparently you quite often get a glimpse of a bear or panther… Unfortunately I think both were on holiday as we did not see either :(

For some reason we seemed to be started at more that other places, it feels as we are some sort of celebrities. However after a while it gets on your nerves, especially when you are trying to eat your dahl fry and roti..

Sorry about the lack of photos, we managed to buy a dud charger, so had no battery… but we are back on form, however the ipod has given up so I am having to sing to Chloe instead. (which she loves).

Treking with guide

Chloe Writes: Mt Abu is definitely the weston super-mare (for those in the south-west) or the southend-on-sea (for those in the south-east) of Rajastan as it was full of Indian tourists and had a really sea-side feel with all the candy-floss and ice-cream on sale - but without the sea.

We did have the best curries and best walks yet. I’m also addicted to mango Juice (mango’s are unfortunately not in season), and the bananas are the best I’ve ever tasted (must be the lack of chemicals pumped into them by the super markets). Belly still hurts :(

Now back to the hustle and bustle of the city as our next stop is Jodpur x
