Santiago

Pete Writes: Oh my head hurts, I don’t think I have used my brain this much since I left college! It has been lots of fun though and I think that we both have a good understanding of the language to help us through the rest of our trip. We did not only learn the lingo in our 2 weeks in Santiago, We managed to catch a football match which was highly entertaining especially when we saw one whole side of the stadium bouncing in unison and chanting their teams name. We also went on another tram ride up to the Virgin Mary who overlooks the whole of Santiago , unfortunately the smog of Santiago limited our view a little, but it was good to get out!

Chloe Writes: The last 2 weeks have been a really good experience, it has been so nice to have a base for a couple of weeks and the people we stayed with were lovely. Anita, Rene & Lesley (3 Chilenos) who live in the house, Nicole & Crista (2 Americans) also studying at the school, Rosseo & Bali (2 cats) & finally Gimpy the stray cat with a limp who I fell in love with, I wish I could take him home. 2 weeks of Spanish classes are nowhere near enough when you are learning a language for the first time, i just hope i can keep it up somehow when i get home or it will probably all be lost.
We’ve had a good taste of the culture, food and drink during our our stay. We even saw Mummys in the Museo do Arte Precolombino that are over 2000 years older than those in Egypt. The craft markets are amazing and our home will definitely have a brightly colored mix of Asian and South American fabrics and stuff. We have enjoyed the Empanadas, pastie like food, Artichokes dipped in lemon and making pisco sours (a lemony tequila like drink) at school.
Its time to hit the road again and head south (good job i brought a warm coat), for the last few days of our Chilean adventure!
