Pushkar

Pushkar's Holy Lake

Pete Writes: We arrived here 5 days ago, and it feels like we have been here forever. I can see why travellers come here and never leave! Maybe the bhang lassies have something to do with it.

We started our stay in a little flee pit, however it did have an amazing view over the holy lake. Shame they forgot to mention that the chanting started at 5am….

So we had a look around for a quieter place, following a lead from our bible (lonely planet) we headed to a mentioned guest house. However we suddenly were pulled by the all familiar sound of BOB… We walked into a soft lit garden with cushions on the floor and fell at ease instantly. The staff are really friendly, and they even have a couple of tortoises wandering around.. very cool (however one seemed to be well frisky- see pic v.funny)

View from one of the many roof top restaurants in Pushkar

We walked up to the Shiva temple to catch the sunset, and at 300 metres high it was a real test on the legs and lungs. I managed to persuade Chloe to do the sunrise the following morning, which seemed insane even before we reached half way. However the sunrise was so amazing we soon forgot our aches and pains. We may even go tomorrow again.

Last night we were at another sunrise when we met 2 kiwis, an aussie and 2 brits. It was Grants birthday, and they invited us to dinner. We had a really good time, and after went on the search for a couple of beers. In pushkar it is frowned upon to drink alcohol so we proceeded on going to a local hostal and getting some on the sly. It did feel weird hiding at the top of a guest house in candle light, but we had a really good night.

Chloe Writes: I’ve really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere here in Pushkar, there’s a really hippie vibe. The shopping is good and I now have the wardrobe I’ve always wanted, lots of colorful clothes that don’t match ;) Everyone is really friendly and at our guest house we ended up being invited to eat a meal of dahl, rice & chapattis with an Indian family of about 18. We will tear ourselves away from Pushkar either tomorrow or Thursday to head down to Udaipur x……
