Kalbari, Jurian Bay and Wave Rock

Pete Writes: Our next port of call was due to be the Pinnacles, however after a long drive we decided to lay our heads down at Jurian Bay. After checking in I picked up a leaflet for Sea lion charters, which we both agreed sounded like fun! So the next morning we woke up early and headed to Green head to see the cute sea lions. Once we reached the island we were told that they had not visited it for a week which was obvious when we saw a couple of sea lions coming off the island to see us. The next 2 hours was spent with more than 15 sea lions playing with us in the water, the more you dived and splashed around the more they wanted to show us what they could do! It was defiantly a highlight of the whole trip so far, so much so I was more than willing to go and play with them the next day!
So with the sea lions still fresh in our minds we headed to the Pinnacles for sunset. The Pinnacles are weathered down rock from millions of years that have left lots of random rock formations, which gave us both lots of funny photo opportunities. After skirting round Perth to pick up a lovely warm duvet (shame about tin the pink cover) we headed inland towards wave rock to get a couple more interesting photos.

Chloe Writes: Before our trip over to Jurian Bay, we spent a couple of days in the picturesque town of Kalbari, where you can see the waves from the sea crash over the water from the lake. A trip to a parrot sanctuary was highly entertaining, with many varieties of the most colorful birds, a couple of talking parrots and a random talking cockatoo who had a very firm grip and would not let go of my finger (Pete had to prise it off). The sea horse breeding sanctuary was closed during our two day visit and the pelicans didn’t turn up for their daily feed (1st time in 8 months). So feeling slightly gutted we decided to move on to Jurian Bay and the sea lions. No doubt the best money spent so far in Aus, and maybe even the whole trip. Playing in the water with wild sea lions in their natural habitat was out of this world, beats watching them do tricks in the zoo. They are so playful, I was knackered after 5 minutes, they swam all the way from the island in seconds as soon as the boat pulled up to play, and didn’t leave till we pulled away.

After some comedy photos at the pinnacles, we stopped off at yanchep national park for some Koala spotting. The cute little bears looked very chilled out napping in their trees. Then on to Perth, or a slight scoot round as Pete said to pick up a really thick warm cozy lovely duvet (as it’s getting a bit nippy) – definitely something we’ve really missed on this trip and it’s definitely a home comfort. And in true cozy duvet style, we are finding it hard to get up in the mornings
Following a surfing trip at wave rock we settled at Mt Barker for the night and the next morning enjoyed a walk up to the balancing stone and Castle Rock, which involved a bit of rock scrambling (in my case with a bit of help from Pete). At the bottom of the mountain we visited Castle Rock vinyard, and enjoyed wine and Monopoly (we got bored of dominos) in an Albany campsite that evening. The next morning we made it over to the farmers market – not quite the caliber of st Nics farmers market in Bristol, but we did manage to buy some fantastic olive bread, creamed honey, raspberry jam and a lettuce- not to be consumed in the same sitting though
