Sweden Low Down

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Time flies when you’re having fun. It’s been a few days since my last entry, and I’ve only got a few moments now before I have to catch a train. So I’ll begin an update of the last few days and fill in more detail next time. No pics for now. [read on]

I Am A Human Being!

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

The rain persisted all day and all evening in Bergen on Sunday. After scrounging some dinner, I hiked up a hill to a towering red church with a pointed green roof. Inside, virtuosos performed a fundraising concert to benefit orphans in Kiev. The acoustics were amazing, a massage of the ear drums. After the concert, I hung out in a pub watching soccer and then caught the red-eye train to Oslo. [read on]

Go to the Bach of the Line

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

It's Sunday afternoon, Day 19. I'm in Bergen still and stayed at a hostel last night. I was assigned Bed Number 16, an upper bunk in the corner of a big room. I slept well. But ... [Continue reading this entry]

Bergen Again

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007
Feeling invisible today.  Earlier, I was staring out the window of a cafe as passersby with dripping umbrellas strolled by on the wet cobblestone.  Soothing, rainy-day background music played.  I was alone at a counter, empty except for a plate ... [Continue reading this entry]

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Hi, loyal readers.  Let me start by thanking those of you who have written me on the blog or sent me emails.  My replies have invariably been bounced back to me undelivered.  I don't know why.  Maybe I need a ... [Continue reading this entry]

On Day 11, I awoke in my elf room, fixed breakfast, checked out and headed for the Svolvær town center.  It rained again much of the day.  I passed the time mostly hanging out in Cod Stew again.  There I met a couple ... [Continue reading this entry]

Chilling Out

Saturday, September 15th, 2007
I rode an overnight train from Stockholm to northern Sweden--the Lappland--on September 11.  The sleeper cabin had a triple bunk bed in it, straight out of a Three Stooges episode.  I envisioned my bunkmates and I reaching around and swatting ... [Continue reading this entry]

There Was Something In the Air, My Friend

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007
Yesterday, I walked around Stockholm from morning till night.  It was rainy and overcast, and my first view of the city was from a bridge on the western edge.  Because of the gloomy weather and the many tall needle-like spires on ... [Continue reading this entry]

Lagoon Me

Monday, September 10th, 2007
On Day 3 (Sept. 7) I left Reykjavik on a bus tour around what's called the Golden Circle.  We visited the Pingvellir national park, site of the first meeting of the very first parliament in the year 930 (just beside the Eurasia-America faultline), ... [Continue reading this entry]
