Lima, Peru

I was very, very excited about reaching Lima…..because, I was told from a fellow traveler that there are Starbucks in Lima  Yes, yes, I know how sad and pathetic, ¨Hi, My name is Rachelle and I am a coffee-holic”…Please have pity on me…I have been drinking instant ´nescafe´ for four weeks! Which is terrible, but not nearly as terrible as the generic brand of instant coffee.  So, needless to say when my taxi passed a Starbucks on the way to my hostel, I screamed and hollered, and at which point Mia (the gal I´m traveling with) had to tell the taxi driver to pullover and let us out….as I was having a fit :)  Fortunately, for me there also happened to be a hostel above the Starbucks, which we promptly booked our bunks in for the next two days!  Ohhhhh, was I in heaven!

Basically, we stayed in Miraflores, Lima (an area by the Pacific Ocean In Lima) for several days.  We didn´t do much in terms of tourist attractions, as we were very, very tired.  We just wanted to take a ´vaction from our vacation´, which is what we did.  We went to the movies, played pool, and socialized with the locals.  Once we felt ready for another long bus journey across yet another border ….we then packed our backpacks and set out for Cuenca, Ecuador…..but not without sorrow!

It was difficult to say good bye to such a magnificent country!  A country, I knew by name, but never by experience, until now.  Peru has “swept me off my feet” in natural beauty, culture, food and people.  Granted I only spent fifteen days in Peru, but I visited everything from the indigenous population, major tourists attractions and cities.  I hope to come back to explore much, much more of Peru in the future!

Nazca, Peru- “The Nazca Lines”

It was sad to say goodbye to the charming city of Cusco…..but as the saying goes “all good things must come to an end” and the end had indeed arrived! Mia and I picked our final two destinations in Peru, before moving on to Ecuador.  The journey would begin with the worst of all bus rides, Cusco to Nazca (to date I have been on about 17 bus rides, through four countries in South America).
