Whoever might still be waiting and wondering what’s happened to us; we arrived home on 23rd April having spent our last two weeks in Singapore and Malaysia.

Australia is a wee bit more expensive that Asia, and it just sucked us dry. But we agreed at the start we were out of a good time over a long time - unashamedly stolen from my friend Jen - and so we have no regrets.

Lots of trip towards the end is missing on this site, and I’ve no idea if I’ll get round to writing any of it up. Because, frankly, I’m not sure anyone is left to read it!

Springs And Rocks

Outback

These are photos of our van after driving through the outback for two days. Most of this mess was caused when we hit a grasshopper plague. Grasshoppers sit on the road - presumably because of the heat it gives off - lazing the day away, until we come along and they panic and try to jump or fly away. Instead they jump and fly into us, creating a mess that stunk of, well, grass. It looks like we’ve gone through just-cut grass, but what you see there is all grasshopper, my friends.

Staying With Louise

We had met Louise and her daughter, Isla, in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Having shared the unforgettable tiger cuddling experience we all had something to talk about, and after exhausting that topic it turned out they were heading to Bangkok on the same day as us and needed transport, so jumped on our bus (although we nearly left without them! But that’s another story). It also turned out that we were heading in the same direction as Louise in about a months time. To Cairns, Australia.

Keep going past Cairns and you reach the tropical rainforest of Daintree. To sum up Daintree in one word I would have to use ‘fresh’. Because that’s what you feel, what you breath, and what you see. It had been raining the previous day so every plant and tree was dripping with life; the crawling kind as well as it’s own lush green leaves. (more…)

CRIKEY! It’s The Australia Zoo!

Home indeed to the crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin. It was a must see we decided, and despite not catching a glimpse of Mr Irwin himself we did have a fantastic day. It opened at 9am and we were waiting at the gates. We’d spent the night parked up outside someone’s house, so hadn’t hung around when the sun came up.

Thanks to a very kind friend we met in Thailand, Louise, we’ve been staying in her house over the last couple of days - more to come of that later - and exchanging tiger photos (we met her whilst adoring the tigers at Kanchanaburi) and we thought we’d post these very cute photos of her daughter, Isla and the tigers, just to show you that kids can do it too…
