You guys inspired me to cycle the Carreterra Austral in October/November last year, 2007. I did from Coyhaique to Calafate and then gave the bike a rest and did a bit of trekking in Torres del Paine. It is a year ago now but it was a truly memorable trip. I bought a fly fishing rod (toy one really) and did manage to catch a small trout in Puerto Tranquilo; wonderful. Looking back on it now it was a truly great trip. I had lunch at the house of the guy in Puerto Yungay who runs the little shop by the ferry dock. He had a 5 year old daughter who I chatted to while there. I always thought I would send her something. I now have some of my daughter's old clothes in a box ready to send, but can't remember her name or an address. Any ideas? To all those who are thinking of cycling the Carreterra; just do it, but do it after October cos I got snowed on then! Richard hi
