Glowing sky at sydney harbour with the famous opera house and the bridge!
Today’s weather was ok to start off withbut it got so much later on , it was so sunny that if we don’t have sun block on then we would be burnt to a crisp even though it wasn’t particularly hot. From the hostel in SF downtown , we walked all the way to Bay bridge and from there on walked north along the coast until we reached Pier 41. We rented our bikes from a rental store named “Blazing Saddles”, it was quite cheap considering we get the bikes for 24 hours .
From the piers we headed west until we reached the Golden gate bridge , through Fort Mason and Fort Point. The bridge is about 1.5 miles long but the bike trail itself is about 16 miles long. It was pretty tough for me as my fitness level is not exactly up to scratch . However, we did managed to get to Old Mill Park after we crossed the bridge despite the number of hills we had to bike up , at one point - i nearly gave up .
We did had a detour where we missed the turn and gone completely the wrong way. Fortunately , we managed to asked a local and back tracked for about 3/4 of a mile and we were back on track pretty soon.
On our way to Tiburon, we had to cross this section of freeway up a hill . At that particular moment in time , I was totally exhausted and I stopped dead in the middle of the road. There was this police car on the other side of the traffic , facing me. As soon as they spotted me that I have stopped in the middle of the road , they started flashing their light. It’s a good job that Laura spotted them , and urged me on. Otherwise , i would be in so much trouble. The funny thing is , I was suffering so much lactic burn , I didn’t even realised how much danger I was in.
By the time we reached the dock in Tiburon, it was 3.50pm , we just made it to catch the ferry on time. The ferry from Tiburon was one amazing ride, we saw the golden gate bridge , Alcatraz , Angle island and the city itself in perfect sunset. It was a beautiful way to end the day.
Now I understand why the bike rental company called themselves “Blazing Saddles” ,it’s because at the end of your bike trip, you are left with a burning a**!!! You ended up walking like a penguin and you had to get off your seat like a pregant woman! Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining at all ! Although I was physically exhausted, may be my muscle is slightly achy, I was happy since I saw such amazing scenery and sights.
