San Miguel, El Salvador
Como Estan everybdy, Well we made it through another country. Guatemala City is beautiful, but because it was Semana Santa (holy week) there wasn´t too much going on. We did manage to find a sports bar with ESPN on the big screen ad the worlds largest plumbers crack upstairs. Anyways, had a decent time there but we were pretty tired and had an early morning.
Kurt ended up getting on a 6:30 flight so his shuttle was leaving at 4:30 in the morning. Once Dana Dane and I got rolling we thought it would be smooth sailing. I couldn´t be more wrong. I was the first driver and it being Easter there wasn´t much traffic, except for the cops that pulled us over about a mile from our hotel. They said I was speeding and then said we didn´t have the right paper work to have the car in the country or we were missing some paper work, whatever. So of course Dana did most of the talking while one policia took off with our paper work, talked to lawyers and the chief of policia i guess we were there with the English speaking guy. The english speaking cop then tells us that there are pretty much no laws when it comes to driving, eventhough he pulled me over for speeding. Anyways it cost Dana Dane a few dollars in a bribe and we were on our merry way. All in all it wasn´t that bad of an experience. We knew it had to happen sooner or later.
The drive to the border was nothing special but it seems like I am a magnet for all the federales y policia. Nothing major happened pretty much checking our paper work. Once we got to the border, everything went as smooth as can be expected. The Guatemalan side took a little longer than the El Salvadora side but the whole process took about 2 hours and Dana took care of everything while i stayed with the car.
After the border we were off to San Miguel. It´s a small town about an hour outside the Hunduras border. A lot like some of the other towns we stayed in. We didn´t go into town here, choosing instead to have dinner at the hotel and of course the Giants-Dodgers game was on and the Giants won of course 2-0. The hotel was fine a little different than the other ones we stayed in but it was all good in the El Salvadoran hood. there was a casino in the hotel but i refrained from gambling. Small casino with maybe 2 poker tables and 2 black jack tables and about 30 slot machines. I was tired anyways and knew we had a long day ahead of us the next day.
So far the trip is going great. Most of the people are awesome. Some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Learning about the history of some of the places we have been too is a lot of fun but I would have to say that I have never seen so many different types of public transportation. I have seen your typical cab, bus, trolley, even pedicabs but i think the most popular form of public transportation has to be a pick up trick. I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever seen more people stuffed into a pick up truck than i have seen down here. There was a time yesterday when i saw people sitting in chairs, kids hanging off the back other people standing near the cab of the truck. They are sitting standing kneeling squatting and no joke i saw someone with a little hibachi in the back cooking. I have pictures but if i wasnt so computer stupid i would put them up. There are also the 3 wheeler cabs and other forms but i think that is the greatest. When i figure out how to put pictures on here that is the 1st one i put up, the truck cab. Ok enough about that, i will pick up on that again tomorrow and for those of you in San diego that might be reading this, hell i hope someone is reading this, i have a little contest for you in a couple of days. It´s called who wants to pick me up from the airport. I know you all want to play but this is just for the many fans in San Diego.
Happy belated Easter. Dana Dane says hi. It´s Flor de Cana time. Hasta Luego.
