Solo Travel & my new writing gig…
I was recently asked to become a regular contributor for one of my favorite travel websites - The Indie Travel Podcast. Their site has a wealth of information and downloadable podcasts for the long term traveler. I utilized many of their podcasts during my travels! Plus, Craig and Linda (the hosts of the podcasts and site) ,are living out my dream of teaching ESL, traveling, and helping others travel through their website/podcasts. They have been a huge help to me in my planning of my next big step of teaching and traveling.
I have agreed to put out one travel article a month to start…so my first one was published this week!
My first article was on Solo Travel - One Isn’t the Loneliest Number - you can read by clicking here!
In this article, Sherry Ott tells us why solo travel is right for her and probably for you - not least because you spend less time waiting for your friends in the toilet.
If you like my writing, and want to see some more as well as check out another great travel website and maybe even download a podcast or two…then check it out!

Hey Sherry,
Like your article on solo travel…did I ever tell you about traveling in Central America in the 70’s (with another woman)? I went by myself to the main square in some Mexican village in the Yucatan with a book and sat down to read. I was totally absorbed in what I was reading, but eventually I looked up, to discover that a ring of men had formed around me, all staring at me and laughing. I don’t know which cultural norm most offended them, my solo appearance in a public space, my blue jeans, or a reading woman! At any rate, it was very un-nerving. I summonded what little dignity I could muster, closed my book, and walked away, to the accompaniment of their snickers.
Remember, I was in my 20’s…I think nowadays I would have probably laughed right back at them and continued to read!
