Most polluted city in the world

That is what Lonely Planet said of my current location, Lanzhou. It is not all that bad. It is surroundedby mountains and there is alot of heavy industry so there is a permanent haze, but no worse than LA for sure. There is not much to do in Lanzhou (pronounced lan-joe) and I have not taken advantage of what little there is. Nope. No white pagoda hill, museum, or park on the mountain side. I got in yesterday at 6:30am and went about getting train tickets for Dunhuang and Lhasa, finding my hotel, getting fresh bandage for my stiches and eating. By the time all that was done it was around 2 and I was beat. So I took a nap. However, at lunch yesterday I met an older Australian man and his early thirties beautiful girlfriend/student who extolled the virtues of teaching English in China. He gave me his card and invited me to an open dicussion group they have every week. I went and had good fun talking with alot of very curious Chinese grad students. Tonight I leave for Dunhuang. I am very excited about it. When I was researching my trip this is one of the places that really stood out for me. More to come when I get there. Cheers.
