You know, that place from those posters

That is where we are. Yangshou. You should google it because it will be a while before we post any pictures. Erica made it here safe and sound. After a day of sight seeing in busy Hong Kong we headed back to the mainland for a little quieter experience. We went for a whirlwind tour of Hong Kong central complete with a tram ride to the top of Victoria peak and the evening light show on the bay. We ate Indian food and stocked up on provisions before we set off again.

It is beautiful here. Really. There are large limestone karsts that jut out of the ground like giant fingers. Still very hot and humid, but I think that is going to stay the same the rest of our trip so I will quit griping about it. I could be in Texas :) Tomorrow we are going to rent bikes and ride around the country side. The food is great too. Now that Erica is here I imagine there will be more hanging out and enjoying the local flavor. it is so much more fun with company. It is pretty touristy here, which makes thinks very easy to get around. When we feel like it we are going to head on to Kunming. Cheers.

Hurray, hurray

Today is the day.
Ma petite amie arrive.

It has been a great two months of going solo down long winding roads in the middle kingdom, but I am more than ready for Erica to get here already. This will be sort of a second phase for my trip. While I have gotten accustomed to going where and doing what I like over the last weeks, I think the adjustment will be pretty easy.

Together we are going to trod the well worn tourist trails of South East Asia, the trek the steamy jungles of Indonesia and Malaysia, and explore the mystical Indian subcontinent. The adventure has just begun. Cheers.

Hong Kong

I arrived this morning from Wuhan. I can't remember an easier travel experience in China. When I got off the train in Shenzen (right outside Hong Kong) there were big signs in English with arrows that said 'Hong Kong.' Everything ... [Continue reading this entry]

Well, after my Tex Mex experience I packed a little bag, stored my big bag, and headed off to Mt Emei. It is the tallest of the Taoist/Buddist mountains and is populated with monks and monkeys. I spent the night ... [Continue reading this entry]

Chi Tex Mex

I had fajitas and mango margaritas for dinner last night. I convinced six of my fellow travellers that Chinese Tex Mex would be a cultural experience. It was great. The food was marvelous and true to form. The mango margaritas ... [Continue reading this entry]

Panda-monium

I went to see the giant Pandas yesterday and the WenShou temple the day before that. The temple was an experience that few westerners could enjoy as much as I did. In the late eighties the game 'Romance of the Three ... [Continue reading this entry]

Hot, humid, and wonderful

My first day in ChengDu was great. I arrived at 6:45pm and took an unofficial taxi to my hostel. That one sentence glossed over so much. I was met at the airport by a tout, 'You need a taxi?' Yes, ... [Continue reading this entry]
