My Hometown: Abq

January 15th, 2008

San Felipe de Neri Church

My hometown: “ABQ” as I call it… Albuquerque that is!
I’m a pure-native of “the Q”. That’s right, I’ve never lived anywhere else.

Sure, I’d love to try living somewhere else, but you know what? Everytime I travel far away, I miss “my” Sandia Mountains. (I’ll show you a photo of them soon.)

Albuquerque was named in honor of the Viceroy of New Spain, the Duke of Alburquerque. And in the early 1800’s the first “r” was dropped from the official spelling. Albuquerque is full of fun & exciting things to do, including shopping & new restaurants… which I will also blog about very soon!

For now, I’ll start with a brief summary about the center of ABQ: Old Town. It’s got over 100 stores and galleries!

Established in 1706, Old Town is truly the heart of Albuquerque. The village was formed in a traditional Spanish pattern of a central plaza surrounded by a church, homes and government buildings. Today, some of the original homes are still standing, and have been renovated into businesses.

The San Felipe de Neri Church was founded in 1706. It is still active, with about 800 families registered – which means it’s been in use for almost 300 years! The church, and it’s museum, is open to the public on a daily basis.

Admission into Old Town is free. I suggest that you arrive in the a.m. around 9:30 – some stores open at 9:00 and some at 10:00. Shop for a bit, then stop into one of the great restaurants for lunch, then shop some more! 😉

And now it’s time for me to go!

Welcome to my blog!

January 15th, 2008

Welcome to my Blog!

I’m a native of New Mexico and love this “Land of Enchantment”!

I’m also an active “stay-at-home” mom, however I don’t seem to be at home much! I try to take advantage of anything that enhances my busy lifestyle, especially all of today’s inventions; you know… cell phones, computers, drive-up windows, microwaves, etc. Oh yeah, and the Internet too. Since I’m usually on-the-go… “I want it to go”! So when I was deciding to name my blog, it only seemed fitting that I call it “New Mexico To Go”.

I’ve traveled all over the state, and still love to revisit some of my favorite destinations, so I can nurture my photography hobby. I hope you enjoy this blog and find it both useful and entertaining!
